To ancient peoples that lacked the tools by which to understand the forces of nature, supernatural explanations seemed plausible, and certainly preferable to no explanation at all. That such beliefs persist in today's world is due solely to the indoctrination to which virtually every child in subjected by parent and society before they are able to reason for themselves. Following in the religion of those who imposed it upon you is not free will, it is the path of least resistance. Once one awakes, they cannot go back to sheep.

Since no one is born with a religion and seem to somehow acquire one by osmosis or some other process, it is rather strange that each proponent of the various religions is convinced that their religion was of their own free choice and is the best of all possible religions. They are firmly convinced that the proponents of other religions are, at the very least, mistaken and quite possibly evil. Since they cannot all be right, The problem becomes how to tell the real religion from the fake.

*HOW TO IDENTIFY A FAKE RELIGION:* 1. The deity never appears in person to any credible person or group of people, and his very existence is unverifiable. 2. No miracles or supernatural events are ever documented by any credible source. 3. Praying to the deity has no measurable, real-world effect. 4. Belief promises a reward and non-belief promises a penalty, but these consequences are unverifiable. 5. Holy text makes unsubstantiated claims and describes events of questionable ink meetings are held to reinforce belief. A person of authority is present to interpret the holy text, and money is collected. Followers have justifications for all of these failings and believe wholeheartedly. *How is your religion different from a fake religion?*

Damn, my dad was falling asleep to WW2 docs like 40 years ago. He’d have this on, which, as a kid, sucked. And then he’d be snoring on the couch in like 15 minutes.

Just poor science in this series. This episode is especially bad. Eukaryotes are not bacteria, and they appeared more than 2 Ba (billions years ago). And cyanobacteria are not their ancestors. Eukaryotes and many bacteria different than cyanobacteria survived many episodes of Snowball Earth. Eukaryotes evolved after Snowball Earth during Big Oxidation Events 2.4-2.05 Ba. Opisthokonts evolved 1.3 Ba and gave beginning to Metazoa (animals) and Fungi. So they had to survived Snowball Earth :) Cyanobacteria gave only beginning to chloroplasts used by Archaeplastida (Rhodophyta, Glaucophyta, Viridiplantae), but even this happened way before Snowball Earth: sometime before 1.2-1-6 Ba (billion years ago). Multicellular Rhodophyta (red algae) appeared on Earth at least 1.05 Ba (billion year ago). Rhodophyta are one of groups of Archaeplastida.
